Property owners in Pierre are reminded that all roofing and construction contractors are required to be licensed by the City of Pierre before completing work within city limits.
“With the recent hail storm, it’s an opportune time to remind the public to confirm contractors are licensed,” said Nick Waters, City Engineer. “There are contractors who travel all across the country chasing storms; they might not be locally licensed or familiar with local building requirements.”
To confirm licensure, people should contact the City Building Department at 605.773.3072.
Property owners and contractors are also reminded city ordinance requires a building permit for roofing, siding, and window work. Permits are available at CityofPierre.org or by contacting the City Building Department.
“We inspect all work completed under a building permit,” said Matt Elberson, Building Official.
Elberson went on to say that checking for licensure and obtaining a building permit protects property owners by making sure work conforms with building code.
