Fog Seal Operation Starts Next Week
The City of Pierre Street Department plans to begin its fog seal operation on Monday, Sept. 12; more than 100 blocks of City street will receive the treatment.
Motorists should expect minor short-term parking and traffic restrictions in the impacted areas during the operation. The streets will be signed until the restrictions lift. During the treatment process, a liquid is sprayed on the street. Once that liquid has dried, the street is open for business.
Fog sealing places a final protective layer on the street to lock in newly laid chip surfaces and lock out moisture. The maintenance technique preserves streets by mitigating weather-related damage and improving skid resistance.
The fog sealing work is expected to wrap up by the end of September.
The city maintains more than 80 miles of streets.
