[ARCHIVED] City Gym Available for Rent

The City-owned gym attached to the newly remodeled Boys and Girls Club is now available for the public to rent.

Tonight, the Pierre City Commission approved the fee schedule. Rental fees vary depending on time and use of the facility. For instance, during the week when the Boys and Girls Club isn’t active, the space can be rented for $25 an hour. On the weekend, the hourly fee is $40. The space is also available for weekend events and can include use of the sound system, scoreboard, and concession area.

“When the Boys and Girls Club was remodeled, it was designed with public restrooms, concession space, and a gym entrance that could be used independent of the rest of the Club programming space,” said Mindy Cheap, Pierre Recreation Superintendent. “We think this newly adapted gym space can help alleviate the high demand on other public space in the community.”

Cheap also says that the space can be rented for children’s birthday parties.

“Recreation staff will be there to facilitate the events for up to twenty kids,” said Cheap. “Right now, we have the ability to host sports parties, nerf wars, and arts and crafts activities. In the near future, we’ll also have human foosball, giant soccer darts, and other inflatables of that nature.”

This recreational facility is the newest addition to City property that is available for rent. Other properties include the Griffin Park Storm Shelter Community Room, the Pierre Native Arboretum Pavilion and Wedding Arbor, the Steamboat Park Amphitheater, and a number of City-owned sports fields. Earlier this year, the City formalized its reservation process and the fees structures for those facilities.

“The fees for these facilities help us maintain and staff those spaces,” said Cheap. “This is a new service available to the community, not a new revenue source for the City.”

The fee structure includes different rates for out-of-town groups, as well as non-profit organizations. For a list of rental facilities, fees, facility use agreements, or to reserve space, visit or call Pierre City Hall at 605.773.7407.
