Sitting, standing, walking or stretching, Pierre-area senior citizens can stay active in the New Year with the Pierre Recreation Department’s Seasoned Citizen Program.

Programming starts Tuesday, Jan. 21 and includes Zumba Gold, Tai Chi, Walk with Ease and Chair Workouts. Classes run through the end of March and are open to all senior citizens and are free to members of the Pierre Area Senior Center. People who aren’t members of the Senior Center can also participate for a fee.

Mindy Cheap, Pierre Recreation Superintendent says that this season’s programs can accommodate a wide variety of activity levels.

“We have chair workouts for those who have a hard time standing but still want to be active,” said Cheap. “We also have a walking program, and Zumba, and Tai Chi that engage the entire body.”

For a detailed list of fees and class schedules visit cityofpierre.org or pick up a brochure at the YMCA or the Pierre Area Senior Center.
