[ARCHIVED] Rural Air Service: Mayor Gill to Testify Before Congress

Rural Air Service: Mayor Gill to Testify Before Congress

Pierre, S.D. –Pierre Mayor Laurie Gill is heading to Washington, D.C., to fight for rural air service.

On Thursday, Gill will testify before the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Aviation Operations, Safety, and Security. South Dakota Senator John Thune requested Gill’s testimony following her work on the U.S. DOT Working Group on Improving Air Service to Small Communities.

Mayor Gill says that she is happy to accept the invitation and carry the rural air service message to Washington.

“Reliable air service is essential to central South Dakota,” said Pierre Mayor Laurie Gill. “I very much look forward to sharing our perspective with the subcommittee and advocating for rural air service support.”

During her testimony, Mayor Gill will discuss the challenges Pierre has faced to secure reliable air service, as well as recommended solutions for alleviating rural air service concerns.

Mayor Gill went on to say that the solutions she’ll present came from the work of the U.S. DOT Working Group she was appointed to last year.

“The workgroup’s membership brought great depth of understanding to rural air service issues. We have some very solid recommendations, and I’m hopeful the subcommittee will give them strong consideration,” said Mayor Gill.

The hearing will begin at 10 a.m. EDT, on Thursday, April 6. Witness testimony, opening statements, and a live video of the hearing will be available here.
