[ARCHIVED] Summer Rec Guide Published

Pierre, S.D. – The City has posted its list of summer recreation activities for this summer.  It features more than 30 programs for youth, as well as adult activities.

Programming starts June 5 and includes everything from drama classes, to swimming, to Strider Camp, to archery, to jump rope and bowling among others.  New to the line-up this year are Mini Squeaky Sneakers for the 3-5 year olds and new Fun Fridays.

“Last summer the Fun Fridays programs were a big hit,” said Mindy Cheap, Recreation Superintendent.  “So this summer, we are expanding those opportunities.”

The Friday activities include fishing at Mickelson Pond, game hunts and pirate parties. The Mickelson Pond events teach participants about fishing safety and skills. The big or small game hunts at the Pierre Arboretum teach kids about animals and their tracks and traces.  And kids can learn how to build and sail a pirate ship while they search for hidden treasures at the Griffin Park Pirate Parties.

Online program registration begins at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, April 24. Walk-in registration begins Tuesday, May 9. For registration details and a complete list of adult and youth program schedules, fees and age restrictions visit cityofpierre.org. Activity Guides are also available at City Hall and at the YMCA.

For additional information, contact Mindy Cheap at mindy.cheap@ci.pierre.sd.us, 605.773.7445 or stop by her office at the Pierre YMCA.

More than 400 kids participated in the City’s 2016 Summer Recreation Programming.
