Pierre Seasoned Citizen Programming: Registration Open

Pierre, S.D. – Registration opens tomorrow for Pierre Recreation Department’s Seasoned Citizen Program.

Now in its sixth year, the Seasoned Citizen winter program provides options for Pierre’s senior citizens to stay active - physically, mentally, and socially - during the cold months.

Pierre Recreation Superintendent Mindy Cheap manages the program and says she has seen it grow in popularity over the past couple of years.

“Some of the programs we have offered since our first year of programming were a little out of people’s comfort zones,” said Cheap. “But now we’re seeing our senior community really embracing programs like Tai Chi and digital photography classes.”

“The programs aren’t competitive; they’re an opportunity to stay active in a fun and social environment.  If you’re curious at all about the classes, I encourage you to give them a try.”

The seasoned citizen winter schedule includes five different programs.  Classes range from Tai Chi to crafting. The first class, Photography, is held on Thursdays beginning January 12.
