Decorative Dumpster Donated to Beautification Campaign

Pierre, S.D. –Thanks to a donation from a local Pierre business, the city’s garbage is getting prettier.

FASTSIGNS, a custom sign company, recently donated and installed a decorative wrap on a city dumpster. The wrap features images of outdoor activity common to the Pierre area, like fishing, camping and jet skiing. FASTSIGNS manager Gaylon Gerber said the company was inspired by Pierre Mayor Laurie Gill’s annual Go Green and Clean beautification campaign.

“We brainstormed ways that we were uniquely positioned to help the cause and came up with this plan to make dumpsters more visually appealing,” said Gerber.

Mayor Gill thanked the FASTSIGNS team for their ingenuity and contribution to the campaign.

“Dumpsters are a must for keeping our public places tidy,” said Mayor Gill. “FASTSIGNS found a way to turn a dumpster into an attractive conversation piece.” said Mayor Gill.

“Even more impressive in my eyes, is that one of our local businesses took it upon themselves to make Pierre a better, cleaner and more appealing community.”

The decorated dumpster is currently located in Griffin Park near the beach access. The dumpster will stay there throughout the summer. As part of the city’s annual maintenance plan, it will be removed for the winter.

The decorated dumpster is expected to last about seven years and will be back in action this spring when the annual Go Green and Clean campaign kicks off.

Tom Farnsworth, Parks and Recreation Director, coordinates the Go Green and Clean campaign and says the dumpster wrap is a first.

“Our community is always very generous to the campaign, donating everything from time to trees, but this wrap is certainly the campaign’s most unique donation,” Farnsworth said with a grin.
