PIERRE, SD –A portion of eastern Pierre will be without water for about three hours tomorrow morning.
People living along East Green Street and South Roosevelt Avenue, as well as, customers to the east of that area including the National Guard Armory, the County Jail, and customers on the Farm Island and Schwellenbach private water systems will be impacted. Water will be shut off about 7 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25. Barring any unforeseen complications, water service will be restored by 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
The water service will be shut down temporarily to allow the city to replace a malfunctioning water valve. Preliminary excavation work will begin Monday afternoon.
The Pierre Water Department is notifying impacted customers individually. Those who utilize a private water system should contact their private water system manager with questions or concerns.
The City of Pierre maintains more than 100 miles of water main and, annually, provides about one-billion gallons of water to its customers.
