[ARCHIVED] Library to Host “American Girl” Program

Library to Host “American Girl” Program

Pierre, S.D. –Girls between the ages of 7 and 11 are invited to the Pierre Rawlins Municipal Library next month for a history lesson and a snack.

The library is hosting an “American Girl” program, based on the American Girl book characters “Molly” and “Kirsten”. Molly is a nine-year-old who is growing up in America during World War II. Kirsten is nine-year-old who, in 1854, has just moved to the American frontier from Sweden.

The American Girl programs start on Monday, August 1, and are held daily through Thursday, August 4. The Molly program begins at 10 a.m. each day, and the Kirsten program begins at 1 p.m. each day.

During the program, participants will be guided through history by the Molly and Kirsten stories, will participate in crafts relevant to the stories –like tying a quilt to help wounded soldiers, and will even enjoy era-appropriate snacks, like M&Ms.

The programs last 90 minutes each day and registration is required. To register for the program, contact the library at 605.773.7421.

American Girl is an American line of dolls that portray eight-to eleven-year-old girls of various ethnicities. The intent of the books and the coordinating dolls is to teach important aspects of American history from the perspective of a girl experiencing life during that time period.
