[ARCHIVED] City of Pierre Looking for Citizens to Serve on Advisory Boards

Mayor Laurie R. Gill announced today the City of Pierre has several opportunities for citizens to serve on advisory boards within City government. Gill said she wants the public to be aware that citizen advisory boards have been a part of City government for a long time and there are opportunities for area residents to give input in areas that interest them, “Getting advice and input from the citizens is an important part of the government process and the advisory boards the City have in place do a great job of helping staff, the Commissioners and myself with their knowledge and expertise. I would like to encourage citizens to become involved with their local government and whether their interest may be in the public library, the planning and zoning commission, parks and recreation, or the municipal golf course they should contact the City and consider applying to serve on a board or area that interests them.” said Gill.

Each advisory board sets their time and place to meet and can meet on a monthly basis. While there may be slight variations in the different boards, citizens generally serve two, three year terms and receive no compensation. Laurie Gronlund, the Director of Human Resources for the City of Pierre, is the contact person for citizens who would like to learn more. Gronlund can be reached by e-mail at or by calling her office at 605-773-7429.

There is a short application that must be filled out and returned to Gronlund for a citizen to be considered for a board position. Currently, the City of Pierre has openings on the Arbor Board, Park and Recreation Board, Golf Board and Library Board.
