[ARCHIVED] Pierre Seasoned Citizen Programming: Registration Open

Pierre, S.D. – Registration is now open for the Pierre Recreation Department’s Seasoned Citizen Program.

This is the fifth year the City of Pierre has offered the programming that targets senior citizens. Mindy Cheap, Pierre Recreation Superintendent, says that Pierre has a very active senior population.

“This group of people is looking for ways to stay physically fit, mentally sharp, and socially active,” said Cheap. “We’re offering programming to meet all of those needs.”

The seasoned citizen schedule includes eight different programs. Classes range from Pickleball and Tai Chi to photography and book club. Programs are staggered with some running concurrently.

Cheap says that the first class in the lineup is photography. Students will learn about operating the camera, composition and editing. The six-week class begins January 14 and is held every Thursday from 10:30 -11:30. Preregistration is required. The class costs $20 and will be taught by local photographer Bridget Scholfield.

To preregister, contact Mindy Cheap at mindy.cheap@ci.pierre.sd.us, 773.7445 or stop by her office at the Pierre YMCA.
