[ARCHIVED] Hillsview Wraps up Banner Year

Hillsview Wraps up Banner Year

Pierre, S.D. – With another year on the books, Pierre’s public golf course has proved its popularity.

In the 2015 season, the course recorded 30,376 rounds played. That number overshoots the traffic Hillsview experienced prior to the 2011 Missouri River flood that closed the course and marks the high point since the course reopened in 2013.

Carin Hayn, Hillsview Manager, said that Course Superintendent Dean Heymans and his staff have done a phenomenal job of returning the course to its pre flood condition.
“Pierre’s weather has certainly challenged him, but Dean has been doing this job for more than 40 years, and refuses to let Mother Nature get the best him,” said Hayn.

Pierre Parks and Recreation Director Tom Farnsworth says that Hayn is also a key ingredient to the course’s success.

“Carin is a 30-year member of the PGA, played on the LPGA Futures Tour, and understands what it takes to run a top-shelf program,” said Farnsworth. “Under her leadership, we’re really seeing Hillsview elevate to a new level. We are very lucky to have her.”

During this year’s 234 day season, Hillsview saw an average of 130 players per day, hosted nearly 30 tournaments, as well as group outings, three different leagues, the high school golf program and eight weeks of junior golf programming.

With such a banner year on the books, Hayn says that it’s hard to believe that summer storms caused the course to be closed eight days in the heart of the season.

“Fortunately, Pierre has an enthusiastic golfing community. Our players were anxious to get back on the course as soon as possible. I’m very grateful for their patronage,” said Hayn.

Hillsview officially closed for the season Nov. 12 and will open this spring as soon as weather conditions allow.

Memberships for the 2016 season will go on sale December 15. For more information, visit
