Pierre, SD –Students enrolled in Pierre Public Schools are getting some positive payback for their efforts to help Pierre land primo placement on the latest game from the MONOPOLY brand, MONOPOLY HERE & NOW U.S. Edition games.
On July 13, Pierre Mayor Laurie Gill will officially gifted three and half palettes of MONOPOLY games to the Pierre School District during the Pierre School Board meeting.
In February, Pierre secured the most votes of any U.S. city in an online-vote to win Boardwalk placement on the MONOPOLY HERE & NOW U.S. Edition game board.
“The local school district was integral to us winning the competition,” said Mayor Gill. “When we asked the school to help us get out the vote, students and staff delivered big time!”
As part of Pierre’s win, Hasbro, the maker of the MONOPOLY game, gifted the community a variety of nearly one-thousand MONOPOLY games.
The Pierre School District plans to utilize the games to reward students for academic achievements. Superintendent Dr. Kelly Glodt, Pierre School District, says that the MONOPOLY experience was a really great exercise for the student body.
“It taught them a little something about modern marketing, about government and voting processes, and what can be accomplished when we work together toward a common goal,” said Dr. Glodt. “From the competition to the spoils, all around, this has been a very positive experience for the students.”
The MONOPOLY HERE & NOW U.S. Edition game will be available later this summer and will feature iconic landmark tokens and new gameplay where players race around the board to visit as many locations as possible, collecting passport stamps along the way. Players will collect cash from visitor fees when opponents land on their locations and the first player to fill their passport wins.
