Pierre to Host Statewide Youth Track Meet

PIERRE, S.D. – Young athletes from all across the state are invited to Pierre to participate in a track meet this summer.

The City of Pierre is hosting the Pierre Oahe Days Track and Field Meet on Saturday, June 20. Athletes between the ages of nine and 14 can participate in up to 3 events and a relay including sprints, long-distance races, relays, long-jump and soft-ball throw.

Tom Farnsworth, Director of the City Parks and Recreation Department, says that this is the first year Pierre has held an Oahe Days Track and Field meet, but the City is accustomed to hosting statewide youth track meets. In recent years, Pierre has hosted the State Hershey track meet.

“The Hershey Track Meet franchise has dissolved, but we understand there’s still an appetite for a state youth meet,” said Farnsworth. “We’re hoping the Oahe Days Meet can help fill that gap.”

The meet will be held at Hollister Field and begin at 8am for check-in and 9 for events There is a $10 registration fee..
