(May 3, 2010 - Riggs High School, Pierre SD) -- Officer Samson Boutchee has been named the South Dakota School Resource Officer of the Year. The award was presented by the South Dakota Association of School Resource Officers. The award was presented to Officer Boutchee by Association President Todd Runyan, of the Sioux Falls Police Department.
Boutchee has been a patrol officer with the Pierre Police Department since January of 2004. He has been assigned as the School Resource Officer since August of 2004.
The Pierre Police Department and the Pierre School District have worked together in a partnership for the last 11 years to have a police officer assigned to our school district. The School Resource Officer role is a role Boutchee has embraced. He has worked with the school district to help maintain a safe and drug-free environment in our school district.
Boutchee has been instrumental over the years in such projects as labeling all of the entrances/exits to the school district, implementing the use of lock-down buckets, obtaining grants for security systems, and serving on numerous boards and committees that benefit our area youth.
