City of Pierre
Arbor Board Minutes
Tuesday, July 20, 2010
The July meeting of the City of Pierre Arbor Committee was held at City Hall. Tom Farnsworth called the meeting to order at 12:20. Those in attendance were Board Members: Dave Kruger, Tracy Laqua and Art Smith; Ex-Officio Members: Tom Farnsworth; Guest: none. The June minutes were approved as printed.
Old Business:
Bird Feeding Area:
Dave, Dan and Tracy moved woodchips until the storm hit on Saturday, June 26th. Dave replanted 2 rose bushes. Three replacement roses were received from the company and planted by Dave. Something is nibbling on the tops of the dogwoods, otherwise the area is looking good. The chips are helping to keep the weeds down and the area has been mowed.
Tom will contact Jerry Schlekeway, Izaak Walton member, about replacing the fence rail and removing the siding. These are issues remaining from the Youth Conservation Center construction project.
Trails Grant Arboretum:
Dan and Art will present the draft grant at the August meeting. Tom is asking for an additional $3000 for the Arboretum budget ($3500 total) for next year to cover the City’s match for the grant.
Green Brochure:
No report.
EAB Action Plan:
No report.
Bird Houses:
Nothing new to report.
Hyde Stadium:
Tom reported the thorns had been trimmed from the locusts and he discussed the Arbor Board’s recommendations with the Baseball Board.
New Business:
Shed:
Art will contact the area lumber companies and get a price quote on a painted solid steel door. Tracy will research paint/stain options. We still have $100 in our budget for 2010, so will need to find funding source(s) to get the shed ready for birdseed.
Our next meeting will be at City Hall at noon on Tuesday, August 17th.
Meeting adjourned by Tom.
