Go Green & Clean
 
The City of Pierre is promoting a campaign to spruce up and keep our community looking green and clean! We have a brief presentation on the campaign.  The program has seasonal themes to help guide the residents, businesses and organizational groups of the City of Pierre to pitch in and help. The themes and time frames for 2010 are as follows.
 
Green it Up - Fix it Up!
March/April/May
Pick it Up - Clean it Up!
June/July/August
Rake it Up - Trim it Up!
September/October
Spruce it Up - Shine it Up!
November/December

April 22, 2010 - Earth Day - Go Green & Clean Kick Off
   New Garbage cans were unveiled in Downtown Pierre
   Earth Day Celebration - educational fair

   Students from The Georgia Morse Middle School did some spring cleanup along the trails.  They collected over 30 bags of debris.

  

April 27, 2010 - Arbor Day Tree Planting - Capitol Grounds


June 12, 2010 - Clean Up Day in coordination with National Get Outdoor Day
The volunteers in the picture below picked up debris along the river and various public right of ways in Pierre.

  
 
 
July 7, 2010 - Pierre Area Chapter of  Walleyes Unlimited - Lake Sharpe River front clean up to be completed 



The Group collected 6,880 pounds (3.44 ton) of debris up along the river.  The debris was collected with boats and hauled to the ramp.  The city provided a roll off container to haul the debris to the Solid Waste Facility & Landfill for this clean up project.  Thanks to the Central Walleyes Unlimited Chapter, the Izaak Walton league, SD Game, Fish and Parks, The Corps of Engineers, the US Fish & Wildlife Service, the US Forest Service and the High Plains Wildlife Club for providing this cleanup project and disposal fees for the debris.  Items collected include: waste tires, pallets/wood debris, mattresses, water heater, misc. beverage containers and scrap metal debris.
 
 
     
 
 
September 30, 2010 - Chamber Beautification Committee - National Public Lands Day  
The chamber will have a volunteer group to collect debris from the Causeway & LaFrombois Island.
