Carin Hayn Selected as Club Professional at Hillsview Golf Course

Pierre, SD – Mayor Laurie R. Gill announced today that Carin Doyle-Hayn has been hired by the City of Pierre as the new manager/head golf professional at Hillsview municipal golf course. Hayn replaces former manage Todd Surdez who vacated the position in 2011 for a similar job in Missouri. Gill said the City is excited to be able to find a person with the skills, qualifications and experience that Hayn will bring to the position, “Carin has been a member of the PGA for 25 years and has achieved the class “A” status as a golf professional. Carin is from Pierre and is an example of a home town person that pursued her dream of becoming a professional golfer and playing on the PGA tour. She has great experience, not only as a player, but as a manager of golf operations having extensive experience in hosting events such as the annual San Juan Open in New Mexico which fields over 60 professionals and 180 amateurs with the largest purse in the state of New Mexico.” said Gill.

Hayn, being a Pierre native, learned the game of golf at Hillsview and is well aware of the evolution of the course. Hayn is also a current member of the Hillsview Golf course advisory board which makes her well aware of the challenges ahead in recovering from the 2011 flood.

According to the Commissioner of Parks and Recreation Jeanne Goodman, who was a member of the interview and selection team, Hayn is the right person for the job to re-establish the golfing community to Hillsview, “Carin knows Pierre and knows Hillsview. She has a good relationship with our staff and golf superintendent Dean Heymans. I feel it is important we re-establish Hillsview and the game of golf with those that golf. We have a lot of marketing and communications to re-establish since the course was shut down by the flood and I have great confidence in Carin being able to do that.” said Goodman.

Before returning to Pierre in 2009 Hayn’s professional experience includes serving as Client Services Manager for the Kansas City Golf Association, Head Golf Professional at the San Juan Country Club in Farmington, New Mexico, Head Golf Professional at Cheval Golf and Country Club in Lutz, Florida and Head Golf Professional at Meadowbrook Golf and Country Club Prairie Village, Kansas. Hayn was a touring professional from 2001-2003 and was in the top 10 for driving accuracy. Hayn graduated from South Dakota State University and was named female athlete of the year in 1983. She was inducted into the T.F. Riggs High School Hall of Fame in 1999.
