The Pierre/Ft. Pierre
area offers a variety of trails including
hiking, biking, nature watching,
cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, disc
golfing, walking archery, all-terrain
vehicle riding, canoeing and kayaking, Come
and explore the natural and cultural history
of the area!
All Trail
Users
-
Obey all
traffic laws, signs and signals.
-
Intersections can be dangerous. Don’t
assume that others see you.
-
Always wear
protective gear appropriate for your
activity.
-
Stay on
designated trails, and be aware that
archery hunting is allowed in some areas
in the fall and early winter.
-
Do not
trespass on private property.
-
Stay to the
right of the trail and be aware of other
trail users.
-
Allow faster
trail users to pass safely.
-
Always pass
on the left and give an audible warning
when passing others.
-
If you stop,
move to the edge of the trail so that
others may pass.
-
Local laws
require owners to keep dogs on a leash
and to pick up after them.
-
Horses are
not allowed on the trails.
-
If
cross-country ski trails are present,
people on foot should walk to the side
of the ski tracks in order to keep trail
groomed for skiers.

All users
are asked to keep areas clean by picking
up litter.
-
Do not
disturb wildlife.
-
Protect bald
eagles by not using trails that are
closed during the winter and/or nesting
times.
-
Except for
authorized vehicles, motorized vehicles
are not allowed on trails except at the
OHV area.
-

witness a trail violation or have a
concern, report it to the Police
