A growing sport among
people of all ages, disc golf is popular in
the Pierre–Fort Pierre area, which features
three disc golf courses.
The game is simple: Players take turns
throwing plastic discs — Frisbees — at a
metal basket. Each player then throws again
from wherever his or her disc lands, until
he or she lands the disc in the basket. At
the end of the course, typically nine
“holes,” the player who finishes the hole in
the fewest throws wins.
Play at the Oahe Downstream State Recreation
Area, Steamboat Park
or Griffin Park disc golf courses for free;
at Oahe, a valid park entrance license is
required. Each park has discs available for
check-out. Score Cards and course maps
available for downloading and print on this
website. Contact the Pierre Parks &
Recreation Department for more information:

GRIFFIN PARK
Griffin Park has a 9
hole disc golf course available for citizens to use
year round. The course is set up around the park
and provides a challenging and fun experience for
all. This course does not have baskets, instead the
course uses poles that the player must hit to finish
each hole.
OAHE DOWNSTREAM
STATE RECREATION AREA
Oahe Downstream State Recreation Area has a
challenging 9 hole disc golf course available to use
year round. A state park entrance
license is required year-round. Discs are available
for checkout at the park entrance visitor center. Oahe Downstream is set
up like traditional disc golf course with chain
baskets on each hole. There are plans to add nine
more holes to the course in the future to make it
available for tournaments and other competitions.
STEAMBOAT PARK
Steamboat Park contains an 18 hole course which
provides a fun and challenging experience for all
ages. It also provides the Park and Recreation
Department the opportunity to offer instructional
classes, leagues and tournaments. Check out
the latest Recreation brochure for information on
these activities.
