First, it will address a gym space shortage that was created when the City Auditorium closed in 2011. Existing school and church gyms have not been able to adequately absorb the current demand for gym space.
Second, a new Recreation and Events Center will expand Pierre’s ability to host trade shows, banquets, concerts and other special events that require large open floor space.
Based on that research and public input, we believe the Recreation and Events center will best meet the needs of our growing community.
We believe both facilities will co-exist harmoniously, and in some cases, work together to enhance opportunities for Pierre residents.
Consequently, 10 events that do the same would bring $2.5-million in visitor spending to our community.
