Airport Security

The Pierre Regional Airport is a state-of-the-art regional airport that celebrated the opening of a new terminal building in August 2012. Approximately 12,000 passengers depart from the Pierre Airport annually. The Pierre Regional Airport is served by Great Lakes Aviation, who provides four (4) daily flights to both the Minneapolis International and Denver International Airports.

As a result of the tragic events that unfolded with the airline industry on September 11, 2001, security at airports, including Pierre, have been enhanced. The Pierre Police Department in cooperation with the Transporation Security Administration (TSA) have developed a partnership to provide security and screening of passengers traveling through the Pierre Regional Airport.
Law enforcement services are provided at the PIerre Airport by three (3) main part-time police officers. Those officers are Jim Halling, Dan Forest and Shane Severyn. Police officers from the patrol section also provide back-up to the main officers whenever needed.
